How Should Brands Choose Fit Models and Wear Testers for Custom Activewear?

Update Time:2026/10/23

Choose fit models whose recorded body measurements match the brand's target size, and select wear testers for the intended activity and body range. Keep garment measurements, tester measurements, and fit comments in separate records so approval reflects the intended customer rather than one convenient wearer.

Separate the base-size fit model from functional wear testers

  • A base-size fit model validates the pattern, grading, and fit standard at the reference size
  • Wear testers evaluate comfort, movement, and function during the intended activity
  • The two roles answer different questions and should not be merged into one person

Record body measurements and body type tied to the target customer

  • Capture documented measurements that match the brand's target size, not the factory's most convenient wearer
  • Note body type, proportion, and any requirement such as petite, plus, or maternity
  • Keep tester identity separate from the measurement record; use an anonymized tester code

Control people, base layer, and measurement method each round

  • Keep the same fit model and testers across a comparison round where possible
  • Fix the base layer, footwear, and measurement protocol before judging fit
  • Change one variable at a time so the cause of any fit comment is clear

Archive feedback by body type, size, and activity with stated approval scope

Keep three records separate and file them so approval is unambiguous:

RecordWhat to captureApproval scope
Garment measurementSpec and measured garment dimensionsPattern and grading reference
Tester measurementAnonymized body data, body type, size triedWhich body range is represented
Fit commentComfort, movement, pressure points by activityWhich sizes and activities are approved

Build an anonymized tester matrix and obtain photo authorization; never disclose personal identity or health information. State clearly which body range and sizes the approval covers, and which it does not.

Share your body chart for fit planning

Send your target body chart, size range, and intended activity so we can plan fit models and a wear-test panel that represent your customer. Sample count and coverage are agreed by product risk and your requirements—no fixed number fits every style.
