How Should Fabric Weight and Usable Width Be Verified Before Bulk Cutting?
Received bulk fabric should be checked against the approved weight and usable-width specification before the marker and cutting plan are finalized. Use the agreed measurement method and review representative rolls and positions rather than relying only on the supplier’s stated figures.
Check weight and cutting width
- Fabric weight in GSM
- Total measured width and actual usable cutting width
- Selvage or edge loss, curling, and distortion
- Defects, shade variation, or finishing differences near the edges
- Roll-to-roll variation relevant to marker placement
Total width and usable width are not always the same. Damaged edges, excessive curling, or finishing marks may reduce the area suitable for garment panels.
Review material deviations before cutting
If measured GSM or usable width differs materially from the approved specification, review possible effects on hand feel, opacity, stretch, marker efficiency, fabric consumption, quantity, and cost before cutting proceeds.
There is no universal GSM or width tolerance for every activewear fabric. At Call The STYLE, the measurement method and acceptance criteria can be confirmed for the selected material and order before bulk cutting.
