How Should Fabric Roll Defects Be Recorded Before Activewear Cutting?

Update Time:2026/10/12

Fabric roll defects should be marked and recorded before bulk cutting so affected areas can be excluded or assessed against the agreed quality standard.

What to record

  • Fabric roll ID, color, and dye-lot or batch reference
  • Defect type and its position along the roll and across the fabric width
  • Approximate affected length or area and whether the defect repeats
  • Severity under the agreed inspection criteria, with photos where useful
  • Marking, isolation, acceptance, replacement, or other proposed disposition

Examples include holes, stains, yarn faults, crease marks, uneven finishing, shade variation, printing defects, and damaged edges.

Use the record before cutting

Clearly mark or separate affected sections so the cutting team does not unknowingly place unacceptable areas in garment panels. If defects materially reduce usable fabric, review the marker plan, consumption, and any replacement requirement before cutting proceeds.

For a Call The STYLE order, project-specific acceptance and cutting decisions should be confirmed against the approved material specification. Linking the inspection record to roll and lot references can also support later traceability.
