Grading Is Per-Measurement, Not One Percentage for Everything

Consistent fit across an activewear size range starts with an approved base-size sample, a detailed garment measurement chart, and clearly defined grading rules. Each Point of Measurement (POM)—waist, hip, rise, inseam, chest, body length, strap length, leg opening—should have its own grade increment rather than simply scaling the entire garment by the same percentage. Different parts of the body grow at different rates, and your pattern must reflect that.

Validate Beyond the Base Size

After the base size is approved, key sizes within the range should be reviewed through size-set samples or fit checks before bulk production. This confirms that the grade rules produce the intended fit at each size—not just at the sample size. Extended sizes may require additional pattern adjustments rather than simple proportional grading, because body proportions, not just measurements, change across a wider range.

Document Everything in the Tech Pack
