What Should I Do If My Garment Measurements Differ From the Factory Inspection Report?
First confirm that both sides are measuring the same identified garment, the same Point of Measurement (POM), and the same garment condition using the approved method and units. A difference between two readings is not, by itself, proof of a production defect.
Confirm identity, method, and units
- Style, size, color, and a unique garment or inspection-sample reference
- Current Tech Pack revision, POM code, and measurement diagram
- Centimetres or inches, recording precision, and flat width versus circumference
- Relaxed or extended measurement, with the specified extension method where relevant
- The same stage: before or after washing, steaming, wear testing, or other treatment
- A flat measuring surface, garment alignment, and removal of wrinkles without stretching
- Tape accuracy, position, and tension, including straight-line versus curved-seam measurement
- Approved target measurement and POM-specific tolerance
Re-measure together and document the result
Take clear photographs showing the garment reference, complete measuring area, tape endpoints, and result. An annotated diagram or video can help resolve a method difference that a close-up photograph does not show.
Where possible, jointly re-measure the same identified pieces. Two garments of the same size are not necessarily the same inspection sample and may have different dimensions.
Keep both original readings, the agreed method, and the recheck result. If a report entry is corrected, date the revision rather than overwriting the evidence without a record.
Judge against the approved specification
Compare each verified result with the approved target and tolerance, not only with the other party’s reading. Do not widen the tolerance after inspection simply to make the result pass.
If a verified measurement falls outside tolerance, review the affected quantity, defect classification, and corrective action under the order’s agreed quality requirements. If the method was ambiguous, confirm it in writing before inspection or production continues.
At Call The STYLE, measurement discrepancies should be reviewed against the same POM definitions and approved measurement tolerances so technique differences can be separated from production deviations.
