What Is the Difference Between a Fit Sample, Sales Sample, and Pre-Production Sample?
SAMPLE DEVELOPMENT
Fit, sales, and pre-production samples have different roles in activewear development.
A fit sample checks how the garment wears and moves. A sales sample supports buyer presentation or pre-launch activity. A pre-production sample, also called a PPS or PP sample, is the production-intent reference reviewed before bulk manufacturing.
Sales sample
A sales sample is usually prepared for buyer review, showroom presentation, photography, marketing, or pre-launch sales activities.
Depending on the development stage, it may not always use the final bulk materials, trims, colors, or packaging.
Pre-production sample
A pre-production sample (PPS or PP sample) is the final production-intent reference reviewed before bulk manufacturing.
It should reflect the approved fabric, measurements, construction, branding, trims, workmanship, and other confirmed specifications as closely as possible.
Sample sequence can vary
The exact sample sequence depends on the brand and product. Some projects may require several fit rounds before a sales sample or PPS is approved.
